This is a part-time Ward Clerk role on Ward G5 within the Transplant Unit, with responsibility to support Ward G5 (28 beds) and provide support to F5 (5 bedded transplant high dependency area).

You will work independently and as part of a team to provide an efficient administration service for the ward. You will need excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise workload and work well under pressure. You should be willing to learn, work proactively on your own initiative, and have excellent verbal, written, IT and customer care skills with a good understanding of Microsoft applications. You must uphold the Trust values of Together, Safe, Kind, and Excellent at all times.

Main duties of the job:

  • Meet and receive patients, visitors and other staff to the ward in a polite, courteous and professional manner.
  • Answer the telephone and relay accurate messages as appropriate.
  • Maintain effective communications between patients, their relatives and the team within the department.
  • Liaise with all members of the multi-professional team to ensure effective communications within the department and with other areas in the Trust.
  • Report complaints or concerns to the nurse in charge.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff to the ward within the ward clerk remit.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of patients, relatives and colleagues is respected at all times.
  • Keeping Epic System up to date re capacity (admissions, discharges, transfers etc).

Person specification:

  • Numerate and literate
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, or equivalent experience
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment or busy reception
  • Experience of customer service or dealing with the public
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills including telephone, email and face-to-face
  • Good organisational skills
  • Willing to take on / learn new skills
  • Ability to adapt to change
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a busy environment

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
