Job overview: We have an opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic person to join our busy Pharmacy Sterile Production Unit. Do you have some experience of working in a sterile production unit either within the NHS or Commercial Sector and wish to broaden your experience, skills and knowledge then we may have just the job for you! We are looking for an Aseptic Technician to join our team of Pharmacy Technicians, Assistant Technical Officers and Pharmacists to provide essential services for our patients to ensure they have the best treatment and outcome during their stay. Pharmacy Aseptic Services provides a range of sterile medicinal products including Chemotherapy, Total Parenteral Nutrition, Clinical Trial medication and Eye Drops. Our team is friendly and diverse and devoted to providing safe and timely products for our patients. Our services are an important part of a patient's journey and we take pride knowing that we are making a difference to the patient's health and recovery.

Main duties of the job:

  • The preparation of sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products in accordance with agreed policies and procedures and the MHRA Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
  • To assemble and prepare items in accordance with prescribed requirements and departmental procedures.
  • To check assembled items and documentation ready for compounding following local accreditation.
  • To be responsible for ensuring all required documentation relating to medicines, their processing and supply is accurately recorded (particularly in relation to clinical trials and PPS worksheets etc.) when dispensing and manufacturing.
  • Ensure that all quality issues relating to products or facilities are recorded appropriately using the Quality Management System.
  • Assist in the provision and upkeep of records & computer files as necessary, after appropriate training.
  • To ensure that all facilities and equipment are maintained and cleaned in accordance with GMP guidance and relevant SOP’s adhered to at all times.
  • To assist with the processes associated with Medicines Management including departmental stock control, computer operations, receipt and storage of goods, issue and distribution and physical stock checks and reconciliation.

Person specification:

  • Qualifications: NVQ3 Pharmacy Services, BTEC Pharmaceutical Science OR CGLI/Apothecaries Hall pre-1985 certificates. Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhc) OR Science Manufacturing Technician – SMT Apprenticeship (Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals Processing Registered Science Technician - RSsciTech Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance experience Leeds Aseptic Dispensing Course or Equivalent.
  • Experience: Aseptic experience in Hospital or Commercial sectors. Current post Band 4 or above. Good team player and sensitive to the need to optimise team performance. Substantial hospital pharmacy experience. Evidence of teaching, training and supervision.
  • Knowledge: Basic computer literacy (word, excel, outlook). Up to date knowledge of GMP and Quality Management Systems Pharmacy computerised systems. Appraisal knowledge. NVQ assessor. Project management knowledge.
  • Skills: Good interpersonal skills. Regularly communicates with key groups / stakeholders: Pharmacy staff, Multidisciplinary Team / Cross sector, Patients, Carers, General Public, Pharmaceutical Industry (may be barriers to understanding). Experience of report writing.
  • Additional Requirements: The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.
