Job Profile

There is an opening for a Community Attendant position within the Infrastructure Services Department, Operations Division (Parks) / Community Services Department -Risk and Facilities Division (Arenas) available immediately. The main focus will be performing regular repairs and maintenance and the following requirements apply:

What you will be doing

  • Works within the Park Operations or Risk and Facilities Subdivision performing regular repairs and maintenance to park properties and assets including minor plumbing, irrigation, turf maintenance, landscaping, risk management and health and safety.
  • Operates wide range of equipment including backhoe, mowers 4\’-14\’, truck and trailers, tractors with 3-point hitch attachments, sidewalk snow clearing equipment with blades and blowers, and various hand tools (i.e. Shovels, rakes, drills, saws, trimmers, chainsaws and chippers).
  • Possess strong knowledge refrigeration room equipment maintenance and safe practices.
  • Knowledge of facility maintenance and basic cleaning tools.
  • Complete knowledge of all Arena building and equipment operations including, ice resurfacer, ice edger and floor scrubber.
  • Complete knowledge of ice making, ice painting and ice maintenance.
  • Over 24 months of work-related experience
  • Possession of a G license
  • Comfortable and demonstrates competency to work in areas where residents experiencing social and mental health situations with compassion towards unhoused residents.
  • Must be able to pro-actively recognize challenging situations with individuals or groups of individuals, avoid confrontations and escalations, and notify appropriate supporting services (i.e. By-Law and/or Police).
  • Carry a city-issued cellphone and or tablet and/or portable radio.
  • Be able to engage in positive communication with a wide range of members of the public and business communities, provide supportive and helpful communication and reflect high standards of care and maintenance that the city strives to provide in Cambridge.
  • Capable and available for standby duties as required.
  • Overtime requirements as a condition of employment.

Your compensation

This position is within the outside workers union salary schedule Grade 4 and has an hourly range of:

  • Starting Rate: $32.67
  • 12 Month Rate: $33.68
  • 24 Month Rate: $34.69

Hours of work

7 days operation (Monday to Sunday):Shifts can be scheduled between 5:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m., 8 hours/day, 40 hours per week
