Senior Teaching and Collections Assistant (Part Time, Fixed Term)

The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is seeking to appoint a Senior Teaching and Collections Assistant. The role provides technical support in the Archaeology Section of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, working with the Collections Manager (Archaeology), and alongside a Senior Teaching and Collections Assistant (Archaeology) (0.22FTE) to support teaching and research in the Museum. The main purpose of the role is to support and expand the use of MAA\’s archaeology collection for Department of Archaeology undergraduate teaching and to facilitate collections access for Departmental and University postgraduate research students, faculty members, research associates and fellows. The role supports the work of the Collections Manager for Archaeology, in particular by working to improve the care, documentation and accessibility of the Keyser Teaching Collection and by arranging and supporting research visits by Departmental and University members. The role assists with outreach activities linked to Departmental activity.

Responsibilities

  • Support and expand the use of MAA\’s archaeology collection for Department of Archaeology undergraduate teaching and to facilitate collections access for Departmental and University postgraduate research students, faculty members, research associates and fellows.

Qualifications and skills

  • Relevant experience of working with museum collections, particularly archaeological material.
  • Very good IT skills and experience with collections management systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and very good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work closely with colleagues, including the Senior Teaching and Collections Assistant (Archaeology) (0.2FTE).

About the Museum

The Museum is the second largest of the University of Cambridge\’s eight museums and is both a museum open to the general public and a research and teaching facility of the University. The Museum is open to the public Tuesday to Sunday and welcomes over 100,000 visitors a year.

Appointment details

  • Fixed-term: funds for this post are available until 1 August 2027 in the first instance.
  • After an offer of employment is accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (enhanced with children\’s barred list), a security check and a health assessment.
