Overview

The Cavendish Laboratory is a world-leading academic department. This role is a part-time HR Administrator position, to provide maternity cover within the HR team. Hours are 22.5 per week over 3 days (preferably Wednesday to Friday, but this can be discussed at interview).

The position is available from December and is fixed-term for 1 year or until the return of the post holder, whichever is earlier. During the six-month probation period, the role holder will be required to work in the office; after successful completion of probation, there will be an arrangement up to 1 day per week working from home, subject to operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and efficient HR administration support for all HR functions in the Department.
  • Coordinate recruitment, visitor processes, and onboarding of new starters, including dealing with immigration and pre-employment paperwork.
  • Work closely with the Senior HR Coordinators and HR Manager; report to a Senior HR Coordinator.
  • Offer clear and accurate advice on procedures and maintain high standards of service in a busy HR team environment.

Qualifications and Skills

  • HR administration experience is desirable; strong administrative and organisational skills allowed. Ability to produce work to a high level of accuracy is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills; ability to work well within a busy team and foster good working relationships with diverse people.
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office packages; highly organised, self-motivated, and able to prioritise workload in a demanding environment.
  • Tact and discretion are essential when handling confidential personal information.
  • Previous HR experience is not essential, but is desirable.
