Deputy Seeley Librarian: Operations (Part Time, Fixed Term)
The Seeley Library is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive Deputy Librarian (Operations). This part-time, on-site role is based on three and a half days a week (including Wednesday–Thursday) and involves supporting a hub library that serves five disciplines within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Politics & International Studies, Sociology, Land Economy and Latin American Studies).
We are a dedicated team of nine library professionals who work together to provide access to collections, training, and a welcoming library space. The Deputy Seeley Librarian (Operations) reports to the Seeley Librarian and collaborates with the Seeley team to ensure the library meets the needs of the communities we serve.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engaging directly with academic staff by attending relevant committees and responding to queries.
- Meeting regularly with students in the library and helping adapt our library service to meet changing needs.
- Using knowledge of the student and academic communities to build collections of in-print and online resources and to purchase content for the History Faculty to meet teaching and research needs.
- Carrying out administrative tasks to support stock acquisition and the payment of casual staff.
- Utilising the library management system (Alma) at an advanced level and training other staff to use it; administering a credit card and organizing payment of invigilator staff.
- Training will be offered for these administrative duties and a range of shadowing opportunities will be available.
- Supervising six staff members, managing a rota to ensure business continuity, and conducting regular one-to-ones; assisting with training and recruitment of new staff.
- Contributing to the ongoing operation of a busy hub library and supporting library staff as part of a collaborative team.
Contract and working arrangements:
- Fixed-term: funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
