This isn't just a guarding job. Cambridge Science Park is home to an extraordinary community of science, technology and innovation. Every day, thousands of people come here to work, collaborate, create and build the future.
We're looking for positive, professional, and approachable people to join the Security Team, which helps keep that community safe. You don't need to be the stereotypical security guard. In fact, we'd rather you weren't. We're looking for people who naturally engage with others, notice when something isn't right, enjoy solving problems and take genuine pride in delivering excellent service. If you're friendly, curious, dependable and confident using your own initiative, we'd like to hear from you.
What does the job actually involve? This is an active, varied role combining security, customer service, patrolling, technology, and incident response. You'll spend your shifts moving between foot and vehicle patrols across the Science Park along with duties within our Security Operations Centre. One moment you might be helping somebody find their way around the Park. The next you could be investigating suspicious activity, responding to an alarm, assisting during an emergency or monitoring our extensive CCTV system. You'll become a familiar and reassuring presence across the estate, getting to know the Park, its people and its businesses. Every patrol has a purpose. Every interaction matters.
We'd particularly like to hear from you if you…
- Genuinely enjoy working with and helping people
- Are naturally observant and curious about what's happening around you
- Enjoy walking and being outdoors. There's plenty of both
- Communicate confidently and professionally
- Remain calm and sensible when things don't go according to plan
- Are comfortable making decisions and using your initiative
- Enjoy technology and are willing to learn new systems
- Take pride in your appearance and professional standards
- Want to develop your security knowledge and skills
- Want to be part of a team rather than simply fill a security position
Security experience is valuable, but attitude, judgement and personality matter enormously to us. This isn't a role where we expect you to simply wait for something to happen. We want our security team to observe, engage, think, prevent and solve problems.
What you'll need: You must:
- Hold a current SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence
- Be able to work a 4 on, 4 off rotating day and night shift pattern
- Have good spoken and written English
- Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
Desirable but not essential:
- Full UK driving License (manual or auto)
- SIA CCTV licence
We are prepared to support suitable officers in gaining the additional CCTV qualification required for the role.
What we're offering: You'll be joining a security operation that is developing around a simple idea: Security should enable people and organisations to thrive, not simply guard buildings. We're building a professional, supportive, and forward-looking team with opportunities to gain experience across CCTV, incident response, patrol operations, emergency procedures, customer service, report writing, and modern protective security. For somebody who wants to learn, develop and build a career in security, there is considerable scope to grow with us.
A different kind of security environment: Cambridge Science Park isn't a shopping centre, nightclub or warehouse. It's a large, landscaped science and technology estate containing offices, laboratories, lakes, green spaces and some of the world's most innovative organisations. That makes our officers more than guards. They're security professionals, problem-solvers and ambassadors for the Park. If you're looking for a role where professionalism is valued, initiative is encouraged and you can make a visible contribution every shift, we'd like to hear from you.
