The Small Business Credit Product Manager is responsible for designing and executing the Bank's small business credit strategy. The successful candidate will have significant credit and small business lending experience, and will leverage market data developments and technology partners to develop an effective and efficient small business credit strategy that allows CSB to reach small business target customer segments and markets. This position resides within the business line (first line of defense) and has accountability to uphold the overall Bank risk appetite while serving the needs of local small businesses.

Key Result Areas:

  • Leverage multiple data sources and small business credit expertise to design, document, and execute the small business credit strategy, inclusive of underwriting requirements based on small business type and loan type to assess credit risk level, decision loan requests, and inform risk-based pricing. Products in scope may include small business lines of credit, term loans, credit cards.
  • Socialize small business credit strategy with cross-functional stakeholders to gather feedback and refine.
  • Create, refine and maintain small business loan performance and loss forecasting.
  • Complete business requirements to drive automation and optimize the small business underwriting workflow, leveraging technology solutions.
  • Manage the small business origination pipeline and assure responsiveness and consistency in underwriting through consistently applied credit standards, training and outreach to originating colleagues, and ongoing process and policy review and enhancement.
  • Work closely with small business relationship managers and retail branch personnel to facilitate new small business relationship development and optimize handoff points for any underwriting needs.
  • Develop and enhance overall small business customer relationship development with a combination of technology-supported high touch relationship management, underwriting automation and implementation of customer-direct digital channels that permit customer independence and self-service.
  • Ensure that approval documentation for all small business loans, including SBA guaranteed loans is appropriate and in compliance with all relevant requirements.
  • Provide consultation and leadership with colleagues and senior management in support of new small business initiatives, including target marketing programs, new flexible lending programs, acquisition strategies and any other such effort.
  • Consult with lenders and others who are considering SBA guaranty prospects and provide early-stage guidance on eligibility and structural components required under the applicable SBA SOP.
  • Ensure that the Bank's guidelines, loan policies, and procedures are adhered to in underwriting of new and existing loans.
  • Stay abreast and keep aware of regulatory and small business market trends and changes that would require modification to Bank policies, procedures, credit analyses or other areas of direct responsibility and make recommended changes and adjustments to each as needed or required.
  • Remain informed of local and national economic, financial, political, and legislative events and climates, which could have an impact on the Bank's loan portfolio or SBA lending activities.
  • Establish, promote, and practice strong collaboration efforts with the various lending business lines as well as other colleagues and customers of the bank, to further grow and enhance the quality of the loan portfolio.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • College degree, preferably in business, finance or accounting; or 10 years’ work experience.
  • 5+ years demonstrated credit expertise with significant small business lending experience.
  • nCino and Salesforce experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with pre-approvals, instant decisioning and digital marketing strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of SBA lending requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills along with a solid understanding of banking financials.
  • Knowledge of business lending operations and regulations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and leverage data to design creative solutions to complex business problems.
  • Positive track record of driving efficiency, and adapting to new systems and procedural changes.
  • Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with people at all levels.
  • Strong presence and can interact effectively with executive and senior management.
  • Significant experience working on cross-functional projects and able to manage priorities of competing stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
