We're looking for a Web Developer to join our team and to take ownership of the website, building, maintaining and improving our online presence with a focus on design quality, performance and user experience. This is a role for someone who enjoys variety and ownership, combining design and development skills. We're a small, fast-growing company, so you'll need to be able to multitask: shipping improvements, creating visual assets, refining animations, fixing bugs and helping shape how our sites look and feel. You'll think on your feet, solve problems pragmatically, and make the work more efficient over time.
What You'll Do
- You'll be responsible for keeping our websites healthy, fast and effective, while building new pages and features that support growth.
- Build, Maintain and Improve Our Website
- Plan and prototype new websites features and updates, taking ideas from concept to production.
- Maintain and improve existing pages and functionality, keeping the sites reliable and easy to evolve.
- Design and Visual Excellence
- Create and refine visual designs, graphics and illustrations that align with our brand identity.
- Implement animations and micro-interactions that enhance usability and delight users.
- Ensure pixel-perfect attention to detail across typography, spacing, colour and layout.
- Design information architecture (content structure and UX) so our sites are intuitive and easy to navigate.
- Work closely with developers and internal stakeholders to deliver changes quickly and clearly.
- Gather requirements from users and colleagues, translate them into practical implementation plans.
- Quality, Performance and Reliability
- Debug and fix issues in existing projects, taking a root-cause approach.
- Run performance benchmarking tests and optimise code to improve speed and efficiency.
- Test new features thoroughly to ensure they work correctly in all cases.
- Stay Current and Improve How We Work
- Keep up to date with new frameworks, tools and web technologies, applying what's useful.
- Research and use open-source projects where appropriate and contribute back when valuable.
- Review colleagues' code when needed and help raise quality standards across the team.
- Embrace AI and Improve Content Workflows
- Use AI tools to accelerate content creation, copywriting and design iteration.
- Identify opportunities to streamline how we build and update website content.
- Experiment with new AI-assisted workflows and share what works with the team.
- Help shape our processes for creating, reviewing and publishing web content more efficiently.
Who We're Looking For
A creative, detail-driven builder who combines strong design sensibility with solid technical skills. You'll take ownership of our websites, ship improvements quickly, and ensure everything we publish looks polished and performs well.
- Experience with version control (Git), and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to write clean, efficient code and maintain it over time.
- A strong eye for design with attention to detail in typography, spacing, colour and layout.
- Understanding of graphic design principles and ability to create or refine visual assets.
- Logical problem-solver with strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
- Confident communicator who can explain technical choices to non-technical colleagues.
- Strong time management and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently and in mixed teams, adapting as priorities shift.
- Enthusiasm for adopting AI tools and improving how we create and manage content.
- Experience with design tools such as Figma, Sketch or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Knowledge of CSS animations, transitions and libraries.
- Experience with static site generators (Nuxt.js) or CMS platforms.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices and web analytics.
- Familiarity with Agile Scrum ways of working.
Qualifications
A Bachelor degree relating to the field, including computer science, software engineering, web design and development, digital media development or graphic design. Evidence of your work in portfolio/projects demonstrating both technical and design skills.
