Job Purpose: Performs routine laboratory work, with supervision, for which there are well established procedures and minimal steps. This work contributes to the efficient operation of the laboratory. Works mainly at the CHA Cambridge Hospital laboratory, but may need to perform some duties at the CHA Somerville Hospital Laboratory as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performing phlebotomy on adults and children
- Performing quality control and assigned technical work under direct supervision
- Registration of patients
- Specimen processing, labeling and preparation of specimens as required; creating site batches
- Assigned technical work under the direct supervision of a manager
- Filing and photocopying of documents
- Performing computer functions
- Answering telephone calls for the department
- Transporting supplies from the lab storeroom to keep work area adequately stocked
- On‑call responsibilities
- Preparing specimens for send‑out
- Assigned duties may include but not limited to:
- Centifugation of specimens
- Preparation and staining of slides
- Performing point‑of‑care waived testing
- Labeling of tubes/slides for testing
- Storage and retrieval of specimens
- Processing/planting specimens for Microbiology
Qualifications:
- Minimum education: High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Previous science course education (preferred)
- Fluency in the English language (required)
- Basic computer skills; Meditech experience preferred
- Phlebotomy training and experience
