The Opportunity
CGD are looking for a Senior Power Device Engineer to join our growing engineering team. You will principally be the technical lead of research and innovation projects of the newest GaN power devices and ICs. These projects are highly multi-disciplinary. The Senior Power Device Engineer will work with project managers, power device engineers, analog IC designers, packaging engineers and many more. You will be involved in Research & Innovation (R&I) projects through their full life cycle from concept to demonstrators and beyond. This role is based at the company’s office and lab in Cambridge, UK, although it is expected that some travel will be required from time to time for this role.
Main Responsibilities
- Technical, multidisciplinary leadership of GaN power IC research and innovation projects
- Feasibility studies of novel GAN IC concepts: Hands-on concept simulations, evaluations, design (TCAD to device design), characterization of novel concepts
- Liaise with CGD experts in Analog IC Design, Reliability, Power Device Packaging Testing and Operations
- Understand the critical path of projects from technical point of view and identify topics early to resolve with the multidisciplinary team for best-in-class R&D execution
- Manage technology requirements and specifications in collaboration with Marketing, Business Development and Application Engineering.
Requirements
Essential
- Experience as an R&D Engineer or similar in the development of semiconductor devices, preferably wide bandgap power devices
- Knowledge of power semiconductor device physics, preferably GaN. Semiconductor industry experience is preferred.
- Expert in the development and design of at least one of the following: power device packaging, analog IC’s, power semiconductors, GaN devices, semiconductor testing and reliability.
- Hold a degree in a relevant engineering or science subject
- Strategic thinker with practical skills and experience
- Inspires confidence in colleagues, partners and customers
- Comfortable in a fast-paced start-up environment
- Willing and able to travel and work with partners in Europe, the Americas and Asia
- Pro-active by nature, responsive to changing needs of the projects and business
- Good communication and presentation skills. Writing white papers and application notes as well as presenting technical topics to an audience.
- A mindset for precise and high-quality results
- An eye for detail

- Skilled in power electronics
- Experience with semiconductor failure analysis
- Experience as system or device technical lead
