Overview
An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for Public Health Practitioners in Cambridgeshire County Council, Public Health Team. You will be part of an innovative, ambitious, and friendly public health team.
You will be highly motivated, experienced with a dynamic, forward-thinking, public health practitioner can do\’ approach and a proven track record of delivery.
Our local residents and service users are at the heart of everything we do. Working across the county of Cambridgeshire you will be expected to drive improvement through collaboration and partnership working with specialist services and partner agencies.
These roles require proven experience of working within the public health arena. They are strategic delivery roles and will work across the system playing a key part in shaping and delivering evidence-based programmes that improve population health, reduce health inequalities and support the ambitions of our Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
The posts report to a public health principal to deliver key priority areas for the department. We currently have six vacant posts across the team in the following portfolios:
Responsibilities
Four full time positions
- Sexual Health & Health Protection
- Maternity and Women\’s Health
- Prevention – Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) and Older People
- Inclusion Health
Two part-time positions (22.2 hours)
- Prevention – obesity, tobacco and physical activity
- Social Determinants of Health

What will you be doing?
The post holder will deliver a high quality and effective range of public health programmes according to the specific portfolio of the role, leading the development, project management and delivery of core work areas to deliver the public health strategic work plan and health and wellbeing strategy, leading specific workstreams of strategy delivery according to portfolio of the role.
Be responsible for outcomes and targets associated with the specifics of the portfolio. Monitor and evaluate the impact of public health programmes and interventions associated with the role\’s portfolio.
Critically analyse the evidence, service and population data, including community and stakeholder voice, to identify priorities and needs across the population of Cambridgeshire.
Develop and implement evidence-based interventions and delivery plans to address population need, using a proactive and problem-solving approach.
Develop strong and effective working relationships with partners both within and outside the council to ensure an inclusive and supportive approach; develop and lead multi agency partnerships, developing consensus, shared priorities, agreed strategic plans, and demonstrable impact.
Commission providers as part of delivery as needed, utilising appropriate procurement and governance frameworks, and ensuring value for money and outcomes.
Manage associated commissioning and budgets associated with the programmes of work as required using robust processes and governance and looking for new opportunities where possible.
Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion.
Ability to contribute to our organisational commitment to becoming a Net Zero organisation by 2030.
About you
You will have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Public Health key theories and concepts. An in-depth knowledge of public health in practice.
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of epidemiological theory and practice.
Knowledge of public health evidence for key public health areas and comprehensive in-depth understanding of literature search to obtain and evaluate Public Health evidence.
Knowledge of commissioning of services and of evaluation of public health or health interventions.
A Batchelor Degree in Health/Health Improvement/Scientific or related subject.
