We are looking for a dedicated SEND Specialist Practitioner to join our Children’s Services team. In this role you will provide targeted support to children, families, schools and settings, delivering evidence‑based interventions, modelling best practice and supporting transitions across key stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise regularly with parents/carers and other professionals to fulfil the SEND Code of Practice (2015) requirements, adopting a “think‑family” partnership approach.
  • Monitor, track and evaluate a child or young person’s progress.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver SEND specialist groups for children and young people.
  • Contribute to the development of Family Support Plans, therapeutic plans, pastoral support plans and other individual documentation for children and young people with SEND.
  • Maintain own knowledge and awareness of SEND legislation and best practice through continuous professional development.
  • Use individual and peer supervision to reflect on personal learning from casework and CPD.
  • Ensure an electronic calendar is maintained up to date at all times and follow relevant policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, lone working, HR and travel.

Essential Qualifications

  • English and Maths at GCSE A‑C or equivalent.
  • Practical experience supporting children and families across a range of settings.
  • Strong knowledge of child development and complex SEND.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to deliver training and work independently.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Portage basic training certificate.
  • HLTA certificate.
  • Level 4 Advanced Skills for TA (SEND Focus) certificate.
  • Foundation degree in a subject relevant to EYFS, Child Development, Education or a SEND field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a subject relevant to EYFS, Child Development, Education or a SEND field.
  • Training in the use of Augmentative and alternative communication strategies.
  • Makaton/BSL training.
