Overview

Do you have a knack for helping people, and a desire to work at the heart of the local community? We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile person to join our friendly team based in Huntingdon Library. The team also support libraries in Yaxley and Sawtry. This role is a part-time job share and involves working in close partnership with an existing postholder. Successful job share arrangements rely on excellent communication, mutual trust and a collaborative approach to ensure continuity of service, consistent decision-making and effective support for staff, volunteers and customers across the libraries. The postholder will assist the Area Library Manager in the day-to-day running of the three libraries. The successful candidate will also need to work flexibly, with a requirement for some weekend and evening working as well as lone working on occasion. Although this post is primarily based at Huntingdon Library, candidates must be able to travel between locations as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Area Library Manager in the day-to-day running of three libraries (Huntingdon, Yaxley, Sawtry).
  • Work as part of a part-time job share, ensuring continuity of service and consistent decision-making.
  • Front-desk duties, cash handling, managing property issues, and answering customer queries.
  • Organise regular activities and events, and work closely with schools and other local groups.
  • Provide some line management responsibility for staff and volunteers.
  • Promote and deliver library services within the local community and advocate for public libraries.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience in a customer service environment is essential.
  • Ability to work with IT and train on library systems; some training will be provided.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings, and lone working when needed.
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and collaboration skills; ability to build a friendly and welcoming environment for a diverse range of customers.
  • Ability to travel between Cambridgeshire locations as required.
