Cambridgeshire County Council’s Emergency Duty Team (EDT) is seeking a permanent part‑time Senior Social Worker holding an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification. The role is 18.5 hours per week, paid pro rata. EDT provides a social care response to emergencies outside normal working hours, including urgent Mental Health Act assessments. The team is part of the Integrated Front Door serving Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It is based at the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) at Police HQ in Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdon, but most shifts can be worked from home. Working hours are Monday‑Thursday 5 p.m.–8 a.m. and Friday 4 p.m.–Monday 8 a.m., including all bank holidays. The role involves a rolling rota covering nights, weekends and bank‑holiday cover. An out‑of‑hours allowance of 18 % and an AMHP allowance of £2,962 per annum are provided. Appointment is subject to a Police vetting check and an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service. What you will be doing
As a Senior Social Worker you will ensure the safety and well‑being of vulnerable people outside normal working hours. You will work autonomously in a high‑pressure environment, applying a high level of expertise and sound knowledge of relevant legislation. You will be dynamic, innovative, committed and passionate, bringing a comprehensive knowledge base to support vulnerable children, families and adults, and will act as a role model for good social work practice, ensuring the best outcomes in the region.
Qualifications & experience
- You must be a qualified Social Worker with a Social Work England registration and hold a degree‑level qualification in social work, with evidence of post‑qualifying experience and ongoing professional development.
- You must also hold a current AMHP qualification.
- Minimum 2 years post‑graduate experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in multi‑agency teams with providers, individuals, families and carers.
- Registered through Social Work England.
- Ability to work from a variety of locations and travel county‑wide independently.
