As our business continues to grow, we are seeking to expand our Sustainability team with an intern who has relevant environmental science expertise. The placement will last for 12 months. Successful candidates should be available to start in September 2026. The role provides experience within a multidisciplinary environment and offers the opportunity to build close working relationships with deep technical specialists, designers, strategy consultants and engineers. This role involves contributing to real advisory and technology development projects for clients facing technology challenges related to net zero, climate resilience, or environmental regulations. Cambridge Consultants conducts an extraordinary breadth of projects, and you may also have the opportunity to apply your skills and environmental science expertise to projects beyond those with a core sustainability focus.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to real client projects, applying your skills to sustainability challenges across sectors such as energy transition, telecoms, healthcare, and the built environment.
- Supporting analysis, prototyping, and the communication of multidisciplinary solutions that deliver measurable environmental or social impact.
- Working across disciplines, collaborating with engineers, scientists, designers, and domain experts to represent environmental and social impacts.
- Presenting findings and ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including drafting content for reports, producing diagrams, and building PowerPoint presentations.
- Participating in internal communities of practice and contributing to our growing knowledge base in this area.
We are looking for someone studying towards a degree in a relevant subject, such as Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or Physical Geography. We encourage you to apply if you are studying a related degree that is not listed here but covers similar content.
You’re someone who:
- Has an interest in the use of technology to solve climate challenges.
- Communicates effectively and enjoys working as part of a team.
- Is passionate about current technology and stays up to date with new developments.
- Enjoys conducting secondary research to learn about topics outside their core focus area.
Developing innovative and imaginative solutions requires an inquisitive approach and a willingness to tackle complex problems. You should be keen to learn new skills and be open to new approaches. Good oral and written communication skills will be key to interacting effectively within Cambridge Consultants and with our clients’ organisations. Experience with any of the following would be advantageous, though not essential:
- Hands-on prototyping of physical or digital systems. This could be in a personal capacity, such as building computer games or websites, or through crafts.
