Introduction
We are looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer with a digital focus to join our world class multidisciplinary team to help solve complex technical challenges across a broad range of industries.
The role
At Cambridge Consultants, we help our clients develop breakthrough technology across a broad range of industries:
- Energy and Industry
- Defence and Security
- Consumer
- Telecoms
- Biotechnology
As a Senior Electronics Engineer with a digital focus, you will collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams to own and solve the electronics aspects of complex technical challenges for a variety of clients, from start-ups to established multinational organizations and government entities.
You will initially establish yourself as a safe pair of hands delivering electronics designs. While some of your work will involve general-purpose electronics design, you will also be a key specialist for digital design projects.
We will provide the time and support needed to acquire additional specialist skills, such as using Signal Integrity tools like HyperLynx, and mastering hardware design for AMD and/or Xilinx FPGAs. If you lack client-facing experience, we will also help you develop these skills.
We are keen to support the development of our employees, and as such offer an extensive inhouse training program. As you advance within the organisation there will be plenty of opportunities for you to develop your technical skills and specialism, take on more leadership responsibilities and/or focus more on supporting the development of sales opportunities.
What will you be doing?
Some interesting high-speed electronics challenges that we’ve previously solved include:
- Multiple high-performance custom electronics developments for Defence and Security applications
Every project we do is different – we are always innovating rather than iterating, so each new project will be a brand-new challenge.
You will also have access to our extensive in-house facilities. Should you attend a face-to-face interview, we’ll provide a tour of our labs which support hardware development engineering during your visit. These include:
- Prototype PCB manufacturing facilities, including SMT pick-and-place, vapour-phase reflow and x-ray inspection
- EMC emissions test facility
What can you bring?
We are looking for someone with prior commercial work experience, but beyond that we can tailor the exact offer based on the amount of experience and capability demonstrated through our interview process.
This is a client-facing role, so you will need to demonstrate great communications skills and a genuine passion for engineering!
The essential technical requirements are:
- Strong academic background with an electronics-related undergraduate degree
- Solid understanding of the fundamentals of electronic circuit design
- Ability to find and down-select high-performance devices, such as application processors, FPGAs and SoCs to fulfil system requirements such as data throughput and power consumption
- Familiarity with embedded interconnects such as DDR4, QSPI, PCIe, JESD204
- Experience of low-noise DC switched-mode power-supply (SMPS) design
- Design-for, test and debugging of EMC
- Experience of schematic entry and layout using electronic computer-aided design (ECAD) tools such as Altium Designer
- Basic understanding of Linux, Python and HDL for the purposes of board bring-up and debug
Due to the nature of some of our key projects, you must be eligible for UK security clearance to be considered for this role.
Cambridge Consultants is a workplace where everyone is welcome. When the brightest minds come together and feel included, that’s when we develop the most important technology breakthroughs. We believe that equality can only flourish when everyone feels involved and has a sense of belonging. We welcome and value all people regardless of their characteristics and encourage applications from all backgrounds and dimensions of society.
Cambridge Consultants is committed to developing its employees’ careers and has a flexible policy for individual capabilities and preferences. Promotion is linked to merit.
