Cambridge City Council is seeking an experienced and ambitious Sustainable Energy Manager to lead the delivery of our corporate energy, carbon reduction and utility management programme. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering the Council’s net zero ambitions, improving the sustainability of our corporate estate, and securing investment into renewable energy and decarbonisation projects.

As Sustainable Energy Manager, you will lead the management, monitoring and analysis of energy consumption and carbon emissions across the Council’s portfolio of buildings. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Leading the Council’s energy and carbon reduction strategy
  • Delivering renewable energy and energy efficiency projects
  • Securing grant funding and external investment for sustainability initiatives
  • Managing utility contracts, metering and energy data services
  • Providing expert advice on low-carbon buildings, heat networks and energy efficiency
  • Leading and developing specialist staff and project teams

This is a strategic leadership role with responsibility for projects and services of up to £3m per annum, where your work will directly contribute to measurable carbon savings, lower energy costs and improved building performance.

You will be an experienced energy or sustainability professional with a strong background in:

  • Energy and utility management
  • Carbon reduction and building energy performance
  • Data analysis and energy management systems
  • Renewable energy and decarbonisation projects
  • Securing environmental grant funding
  • Team leadership and programme delivery

You will also bring excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical information into clear, practical actions. A degree-level qualification and IEMA membership (or equivalent) are essential.

Salary: £47,181 to £52,413 (City Pay Band 7), pro rata for part time.

Location: This is flexible – working in Cambridge on site or at one of our offices or working from home. You will be able to balance your work location accordingly.
