At Cambridge City Council, we are there for our residents when they need us the most, including when they lose a loved one. That is why we require a sympathetic Bereavement Services Officer to work in our Bereavement Services.
You will guide grieving people through the paperwork complexities of the burial, cremation and commemoration process. You will provide guidance and support to customers on council policies and procedures, take responsibility for booking funerals and coordinating the scattering of ashes, assist people as they select memorials in commemoration of their loved one, and combine technicalities of the job with an empathetic touch.
You will be a team player, with a flexible working approach and well presented with high personal standards. With excellent IT skills and a good knowledge of electronic diary and appointment systems, you must manage your own workload. You will also maintain our records, provide occasional operational support including chapel cover and assistance in the crematory, and carry out cleaning of the crematory, chapels, associated public areas and general housekeeping to a high standard. On occasions you may be asked to collect a deceased to bring back to our premises. Owing to the nature of this position you will need to hold a full driving licence.

Hours: This is a full-time role, for 37 hours per week. Working Pattern: Monday – Friday 0900-1700 with Saturday work on a rota basis. Contract: Permanent. Salary: £31,586 - £35,235 per annum (City Pay Band 4). Location: Cambridge City Crematorium and Newmarket Road Cemetery.
