South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridge City Council have formed a refuse collection shared service and are recruiting for Refuse Drivers to join our team which deliver high-quality, environmentally-sustainable services. As a Refuse Driver you will be working with Loaders as a team to collect and empty bins into our trucks in a safe and efficient way. We work to high-customer standards, clearing up spilt rubbish and returning bins to the correct places.
Joining hard‑working teams with a service satisfaction rate of over 90%, we need people who can bring a professional and friendly attitude. It is essential that you have good customer service skills with a flexible and positive approach.
Roles with the South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridge City Council shared service are based at our Waterbeach Depot for early‑morning starts. The contracted hours are 06:00am to 14:30pm. As part of South Cambridgeshire District Council, colleagues also benefit from our four-day week approach. We expect employees to deliver 100% of their work in around 85% of their contracted hours, while receiving 100% of their pay. This supports a better work‑life balance, alongside the same salary and reduced working hours. All Council staff can opt into this way of working under our Productivity Policy. We have adopted this model to help attract and retain talented colleagues, improve services, reduce reliance on agency workers, and support overall health and wellbeing.
All uniform, along with any other PPE required will be provided. We offer a career grade average pension scheme (LGPS), you would contribute 5.8% progressing to 6.5% and the council will contribute 18.6% into your pension.
