The secondary market is a rapidly growing segment of the global private investment universe and has become a widely‑used tool by both limited partners and general partners for portfolio management. The CA Secondaries Team is seeking to hire an Investment Director to join this growing practice area within Cambridge Associates. The team manages all aspects of the investment process for fund secondary, GP‑led, and direct secondary transactions on behalf of Cambridge Associates. The Secondaries Team evaluates opportunities on a global basis and across all asset classes within the private investment spectrum, including private equity buyouts, growth equity, venture capital, private credit, and private real assets (real estate, infrastructure, etc.).
As a global and cross‑functional team, members of the Secondaries Team work closely with the broader Private Investment Research Team to source, evaluate, execute, and monitor secondary investment opportunities. The Secondaries Team is currently comprised of 7 investment professionals across our Boston, San Francisco, and London offices.
We are looking for a highly motivated and capable individual to join the Secondaries Team in London. The Investment Director will bring a deep understanding of the secondary private markets and a demonstrated ability to function as a “deal captain”, possessing a strong transactional skillset and judgment in modeling and managing secondary transactions, managing deal teams, and presenting to an Investment Committee.
Job Responsibilities:
- Leading and executing business and industry due diligence on private investment portfolios, including building complex financial models, setting analytical frameworks, and reviewing models developed by other team members to ensure accuracy and rigor throughout the investment process.
- Managing and prioritizing deal flow, and leading the screening process, ensuring alignment with the team’s strategic objectives and risk parameters.
- Leading and facilitating meetings with private equity fund executives, portfolio company executives, and other senior investment professionals, both internal and external to Cambridge Associates, serving as the primary representative of the firm.
- Authoring and reviewing written research and analysis utilized for investment decision making by Cambridge’s clients and the CA Secondaries Investment Committee, including both concise commentaries and in‑depth due diligence reports, and ensuring the quality and rigor of all deliverables.
- Monitoring market trends, identifying emerging opportunities, and driving CA’s thought leadership in private investments, including the development and dissemination of original insights and perspectives.
- Representing the firm at meetings with clients, prospects, and at industry events, actively promoting the firm’s thought leadership and leading business development initiatives.
- Providing strategic direction and mentorship to the Secondaries Team, and leading projects and analyses outside of transactions to enhance the team’s knowledge, capabilities, and overall success.
Qualifications:
- Substantial progressive experience in private investment secondaries transactions.
- Bachelor’s degree with a record of achievement (any major; preference for finance, accounting, economics, or related field).
- Strong, demonstrated interest in private equity, in both direct and secondary investments, and a strong understanding of market dynamics, transaction structures, and portfolio management.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Proven secondary transactional process and deal management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and initiative.
- Self‑starter with a high degree of independence, sound judgment, and the ability to drive projects from inception to completion with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrated command of written English communication and strong business writing skills.
- Ability and willingness to engage in conversation with internal and external parties, including senior investment professionals.
- Expert‑level proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; familiarity with secondary transaction models and additional analytical tools.
- Ability to work both independently and on a team under tight deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Must be eligible to work without restriction in the UK.
