As a Senior Network Engineer at Cambridge Aerospace, you will design, build, and operate secure, high‑performance network infrastructure that supports our engineering, manufacturing, and test environments. You’ll own everything from greenfield network deployments to ongoing reliability, security, and scalability in a fast‑moving, mission‑critical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement network architecture from a greenfield site, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and data‑centre connectivity.
  • Own network build‑out end to end: requirements, architecture, hardware selection, configuration, deployment, and documentation.
  • Implement robust security controls, including firewalls, segmentation, access control, and monitoring in line with defence and industry best practice.
  • Support high‑performance engineering environments, including CAD, simulation, test systems, and on‑prem/hybrid infrastructure.
  • Configure and manage switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and network services.
  • Partner closely with IT, security, facilities, and engineering teams to ensure networks support real operational needs.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Network Engineer or similar role, with hands‑on responsibility for building networks from a greenfield site.
  • Strong understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, QoS).
  • Experience configuring and managing enterprise‑grade networking hardware and firewalls.
  • Solid understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Strong network and OT security principles.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment and make pragmatic technical decisions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a bias toward ownership and delivery.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience working in regulated, security‑conscious environments (e.g. defence, aerospace, manufacturing, critical infrastructure).
  • Experience with Ad‑Hoc engineering networks.
  • Experience with SASE systems.
  • Experience deploying PtP wireless infrastructure.
  • Exposure to zero‑trust or segmented network architectures.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced R&D or startup environment, with rapid prototype iteration times.
