Responsibilities
- Set, operate, and optimise 5‑axis CNC milling machines to manufacture complex precision components.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications, including GD&T.
- Produce parts to extremely tight tolerances in materials such as titanium, aluminium, stainless steel, and high‑performance alloys.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, workholding, and fixtures.
- Make on‑machine program edits and offset adjustments where required.
- Work with CAM‑generated programs, collaborating with programmers to improve machining efficiency, quality, and cycle time.
- Perform first‑off and in‑process inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges).
- Ensure all machining activities comply with aerospace and defence quality standards and procedures.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and support continuous process improvement.
- Maintain machine performance through routine checks, maintenance, and good housekeeping.
- (Senior level) Support and mentor junior machinists and operators where required.
Requirements
- Strong CNC machining experience with a focus on 5‑axis milling.
- Experience machining for aerospace, defence, motorsport, or similarly regulated industries.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Solid understanding of tooling, workholding, and cutting strategies.
- Experience using precision inspection equipment.
- Working knowledge of CNC controls such as Siemens, Fanuc, or Heidenhain.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high quality and delivery standards.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred
- Experience using or working alongside CAM software (e.g. Hypermill, Siemens NX).
- Experience across prototype, low‑volume, and higher‑volume precision manufacturing.
- Knowledge of AS9100 or aerospace quality systems.
- Experience in fast‑paced R&D or startup environments.
