Border Honey is a dynamic and growing family-run commercial beekeeping business based in north-east Wales. We specialise in honey production, queen breeding and beeswax processing. We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our team as an apprentice beekeeper. We will invest in and support your development with a view to career progression within our company.
About the role:
- Manage bee colonies for honey, queen and nucleus production.
- Harvest, extract and prepare honey for sale.
- Process beeswax into foundation for ourselves and customers.
- Prepare and maintain equipment.
- Represent Border Honey at events.
- Complete a three-year C&G Diploma in Excellence in Bee Farming qualification.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Interested in sustainable food and livestock production.
- Enjoy being hands-on and outdoors in varying weather conditions, working in a variety of locations.
- Capable of active physical work with heavy lifting.
- Confident working with machinery (following training).
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to work flexibly to the seasonal demands of the job.
- Enjoy a variety of tasks and new challenges.
- Willing to learn and responsive to guidance.
- Ability to show initiative and solution focused.
- Maintain a positive, proactive attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure in challenging conditions.
- Good time management skills.
- Self-motivated and committed to completing a three-year apprenticeship programme.
- No medical requirements that would prevent you from fulfilling the role; no known allergy to bee or wasp stings.
- UK residency or authorised for work in the UK.

- Appreciation of what commercial beekeeping involves.
- Clean driving licence.
- Qualification in a related subject (such as agriculture, animal management, food technology).
Skills and qualities of the individual are more important to us than previous beekeeping experience, although this would be advantageous.
