Management Accountant

Due to a new shipbuilding contract, we are now looking for a dynamic, capable and committed finance professional to join our finance team based at our site in Southampton. The successful candidate will be professional, personable with the ability to form effective working relationships within Calshot’s growing team.

Responsibilities of the role will include (but not limited to) the following:

  1. Preparation of management accounts including month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  2. Oversight of the Company\’s Fixed Asset Register.
  3. Supervision of the day-to-day transactions of the Accounts Payable team.
  4. Assist with the preparation of forecasts and budgets at both project and company-wide levels.
  5. Provision of financial reports and analysis as requested.
  6. Assist and oversee company administration tasks as appropriate. This may include: ONS survey submissions, VAT and other HMRC/tax related tasks.
  7. Provide year end reconciliations for statutory accounts and assist with requests from Auditors.
  8. Assist Senior Finance Manager and the HR Manager with the processing of the Company\’s monthly payroll.
  9. Assist the Senior Finance Manager with the management and implementation of new and existing financial systems.
  10. Providing cover for colleagues during periods of absence/high workload.

Person specification

  1. Professional accounting or finance qualification.
  2. Ideally 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role within an SME.
  3. Confident user of financial systems e.g. Xero, Sage.
  4. Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
  5. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  6. Team player with good communication skills.
  7. Practical approach to problem-solving.
  8. Enduring and flexible character, with ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.

  1. 40 hours of work per week – Monday to Friday.
