The Calow and Brimington Practice, Chesterfield is a two site practice with a patient list of 8000. Our surgeries are located at Brimington and Calow, each being approximately 2.5 miles outside Chesterfield. We are looking to recruit a part time Healthcare Assistant. Salary dependent on experience.
Experience of working in Primary Care, together with a knowledge of the SystmOne clinical system is desirable but not essential.
Main duties of the job:
- Phlebotomy
- Annual checks
- NHS health checks
- Learning disability checks
- B12 monitoring
- Blood pressure monitoring including 24 hour ABPM monitoring
- ECGs
- Flu and covid injections
- INR monitoring
- Ear syringing
- Spirometry
- Wound care management
- Weight management
The Calow and Brimington Practice is at the heart of a diverse community servicing 8000 patients across two sites. We welcome applications from experienced Healthcare Assistants to join our friendly, professional, caring and committed primary health care team.
Job responsibilities:
- Basic health care tasks under the supervision of the Practice Nurses and GPs
- Provide a courteous, high standard of service to patients
- Ensure a tidy work and patient environment
- Follow procedures and protocols
- Provide cover for absent colleagues and assist colleagues with workflows
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Basic records
- Cleaning and sterilisation of instruments as applicable
- Stock control of disposable equipment
- Application of basic dressings
- Monitoring, ordering and maintaining of vaccines in fridges
- Monitoring and recording of fridge temperatures
- General stock control in consulting rooms and ordering of replacement supplies
- Assisting with clinics as directed
- Ensuring all work is documented accurately in patient records
- Maintaining health promotion literature and materials
- Recording of adverse incidents and significant events
- Any other clinical duties that may be reasonably expected from time to time and which are consistent with the responsibilities of the post following suitable training and supervision
General:
- Ensure patient records are kept confidential and maintained in accordance with Practice protocols, procedures and the Data Protection Act
- Compliance with all protocols and procedures and any general requirements specified by the Partners or Practice Manager
- Undertaking relevant training and ensuring qualifications are kept up to date
- Any other duties that may be reasonably expected from time to time and which are consistent with the responsibilities of the post

Person Specification:
- A demonstrable commitment to professional development
- Good standard of English & Maths
- Qualifications in a Healthcare related subject/HCA qualification NVQ2/3 in Health Care
Knowledge and skills:
- Competent in basic HCA duties
- Demonstrate understanding of requirements of General Practice
- Evidence of ongoing PDP
- Awareness of own accountability
- To have a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality
- Read coding experience
- Valid Driving Licence
