Overview
We have an exciting opportunity within our Customer Engineering Department as a Network & Asset Engineer. This role will oversee upgrade projects and design work for Calor\’s metered distribution networks and other existing assets, ensuring system optimization, regulatory compliance, and engineering excellence in safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Design & Development
- Design and upgrade assets within Calor\’s metered distribution network and other existing company assets as required
- Ensure technical compliance with industry regulations, codes, and standards
- Develop and maintain engineering specifications, procedures, and technical documentation
- Complete relevant signoffs
- Collaborate with external consultants as required for complex design solutions
- System Optimisation & Risk Management
- Identify and implement process optimisation initiatives to enhance system efficiency
- Conduct system analysis and feasibility studies for improvements and expansions
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with metered distribution assets
- Develop and implement safe systems of work to improve operational safety, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulations
- Maintenance Strategy & Troubleshooting
- Develop and oversee long-term maintenance strategies to enhance system reliability
- Establish and oversee maintenance schedules for metered distribution networks
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to system performance
- Provide in-field technical support to Area Technical Supervisors and contractors
- Project Management
- Plan, execute, and oversee upgrade projects on existing sites within the metered network and other company assets as required
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
- Oversee installations, modifications, and infrastructure enhancements
- Profitability Assessments & Financial Optimization
- Conduct profitability assessments for existing assets and evaluate investment requirements for new projects and upgrades
- Optimise asset performance to maximize cost efficiency and profitability
- Assist in budgeting, cost estimation, and return-on-investment analysis for engineering initiatives
- Decommissioning & Asset Management
- Develop and implement decommissioning strategies for outdated or redundant infrastructure
- Ensure safe and compliant removal of assets from service
- Manage the lifecycle of engineering assets to enhance long-term sustainability
- Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Stay informed of changes to engineering regulations and industry best practices
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and quality standards
- Develop and implement engineering procedures to maintain operational integrity
- Emergency Response & Support
- Act as a technical lead in response to system failures or emergencies
- Diagnose issues and implement corrective actions to restore operations
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor\’s degree in an engineering related field, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience, preferably within gas distribution or energy sectors
- Knowledge of process safety, distribution networks or related infrastructure, preferrable
- Strong track record of managing engineering projects from conception to completion
- Experience working within a highly regulated safety framework

- Understanding of engineering principles
- Ability to analyse technical systems for optimisation and troubleshooting
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly
- Proficiency in engineering design software and industry-standard tools
