Salary: £40,000 - £44,000 per annum depending on experience plus benefits

This role is shift based with 12% shift allowance.

About Us: At Calor, we are dedicated to safely and efficiently delivering LPG to meet the demands of our customers. As the largest facility in the UK handling refrigerated propane, our Canvey Island terminal is a critical part of this operation, supporting import, export, and distribution activities 24/7, 365 days a year.

The Role: We are seeking a Shift Lead to supervise and coordinate terminal operations at our Canvey Island site. This role involves leading a shift team of Terminal Technicians, contractors, and security staff to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the terminal’s assets and processes. You will manage day-to-day activities, respond to plant conditions, and act as the Incident Controller during emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise terminal operations, including LPG storage, marine jetty activities, pressure systems, cryogenic plant, and utility systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental (SHE) policies and procedures.
  • Manage the Terminal Permit to Work system, ensuring a safe system of work for all activities and adherence to operational standards.
  • Monitor and manage stock inventories to meet business demands and scheduling requirements.
  • Lead and develop your shift team, ensuring training and competency to meet workload requirements.
  • Act as the Incident Controller in emergencies, liaising with emergency services and managing on-site responses.
  • Supervise contractor activities to ensure safety and performance standards are met.
  • Maintain accurate operational and maintenance records for regulatory and business reporting.

What We’re Looking For:

Technical Expertise:

  • Experience with plant operations and control systems (e.g., SCADA or DCS).
  • Knowledge of LPG and cryogenic systems or related engineering disciplines.
  • Familiarity with COMAH site regulations, safety practices, and emergency response protocols.

Leadership Skills:

  • Strong planning, resource management, and team leadership abilities.
  • Ability to motivate, coach, and develop your team to achieve high standards.
  • Effective communication skills to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
