Field Applications Engineer (FAE) - EMEA
Calnex Solutions is a growing and successful global technology company based in Linlithgow, Scotland with offices in Belfast, Northern Ireland and Stevenage, England.
We are supported by teams across the globe in the US, Canada, Asia, and Europe.
We design, produce and market test instrumentation and solutions for network synchronization and network emulation, enabling our customers to validate the performance of the critical infrastructure associated with the telecoms networks.
We are seeking an experienced Field Applications Engineer to join our small but highly skilled EMEA sales team, supporting customers across the region and driving technical success throughout the sales cycle.

Working closely with our Engineering team, as well as Marketing, Sales and Operations, you will contribute to turning market and customer requirements into high quality, winning products.

This role can be based at our UK offices in Belfast, Northern Ireland, or Linlithgow, Scotland or fulfilled remotely from anywhere in Europe.
Our FAEs are the primary technical interface to our partners and customers throughout the EMEA region.
Key responsibilities of the role
- Understand Calnex products’ specifications and their applications for specific industries and end users.
- Identify and analyse customer technical requirements to propose and demonstrate how Calnex products can fulfil these requirements.
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support, establishing a consultative relationship with both our partners and customers, which includes:
- assessing product capability to meet their requirements
- helping define their testing requirements
- assisting in the definition, debug and analysis of test topologies and measurement configurations
- analysis of test issues, results etc.
- providing technical training, both in-person and remotely
- Support commercial colleagues in the EMEA team with technical input.
- Identify business opportunities and contribute to marketing proposals.
- Support trade fairs, plug fests (interop events) and customer visits to promote Calnex products/expertise.
- Travel up to 50% of the time within the EMEA region.
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- The ability to gain a thorough understanding of the Calnex product lines and related technologies.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting products or protocols used in Ethernet Networks.
- Educated to Degree level in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent.
- Strong willingness to learn the products and their applications.
- Programming/scripting experience – Python preferred.
- Previous experience in direct technical interactions with customers.
- A natural problem solver with excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of Ethernet network and/or Synchronisation testing.
- Excellent communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to all levels of users.
- The ability to build relationships of close technical and personal ties with our partners and customers, enabling efficient issue resolution and an environment to identify new opportunities for Calnex.
- Adaptable to rapidly changing market requirements with prioritisation skills.

The UK Calnex team are currently working in a hybrid model at their manager’s discretion.
This flexibility is dependent on job role and supports a positive work/life balance and the needs of the business.
This role requires a minimum of 2 working days in the office (Tuesday and Thursday), with the other three days at home when possible.
This may vary depending on what’s required to fulfil the requirements of the role.
Flexibility and communication are key to making the hybrid model work for both the successful candidate and the business.
