Role Overview:
Responsible to the Area Operations Manager for the efficient and safe operation of the Ports and Slipways for which responsible, ensure that all customer, business partner relationships and operational service requirements are delivered in accordance with the Company's specifications and obligations. Ensure all Port operations and activities are undertaken in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and that staff for which responsible are competent to undertake their required duties and are fully briefed and equipped to provide a comprehensive service to customers. Identify opportunities to generate revenue improvement, assist in implementing cost reduction and ensure all costs including staff and service operations are kept under control and within budget.
As Port Manager for Mull, you will be based at the Craignure port office and will be responsible for Craignure, Tobermory, Kilchoan, Lochaline, Fishnish, Fionnphort, Iona, Bull Hole and Dearg Phort.
Functional Responsibilities / Key Tasks:
- Management of department processes should be in line with company expectations and ensuring consultation is completed with relevant process reviewers when adding, amending, deleting, and reviewing owned processes.
- Responsible to the Area Operations Manager for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient, and safe operation of the Port/s and Slipways for which responsible.
- Ensure the management of customer and business partner relationships and that operational service requirements are delivered in accordance with the Company's specifications and obligations.
- Prepare and agree staff rosters and ensure deployment and supervision of staff to meet service needs within agreed budgets.
- Ensure that all costs for which responsible including staff and service operations are kept under control and within budget.
- Direct Port operations in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and ensure that safe working practices are adopted and maintained, that staff are competent to undertake their required duties and are fully briefed and equipped to provide a comprehensive and safe service.
- Identify opportunities to generate revenue improvement and assist in implementing cost reductions.
- In liaison with the Area Manager and Human Resources Department ensure that all staff recruitment, leavers, and discipline etc. are dealt with and processed in accordance with the Company's laid down procedures.
- Ensure that ticket issuing, and collection is undertaken by appropriate staff and accounted for in accordance with the Company's revenue protection regulations.
- Ensure that all monies are properly accounted for and that cash etc. is secured and banked in accordance with the Company's regulations.
- Liaise with vessels to ensure there is a two-way flow of communication about action to be taken due to service disruptions and customer requirements etc.
- Undertake daily inspections of pier buildings and slipways and take action as appropriate to ensure they are fit and safe for purpose and maintained in good condition.
- Responsible, where appropriate, for collection of pier, berthing and fishing dues from vessels or third parties.
- Participate, as required, in work roster patterns to ensure full-service coverage at the Port at all times and respond to emergency call outs when necessary.
- Any other duties required by the Area Operations Manager.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- HNC / HND qualification or equivalent essential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate experience of implementing change.
- Able to discuss, communicate, negotiate, and resolve problems and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Computer literate with experience of Word and Excel desirable.
- Must be able to commute to the island / commute to Craignure on a daily basis.
- Must hold driver's license as travelling between ports on the island will be required on a regular basis.
