About the Role

As a Propulsion Engineer, you will report to an Air Vehicle Design Team Leader and work within a multi‑disciplined project team. You will deliver solutions to challenging design and integration problems to meet project requirements. You will contribute to novel UAS, integration and test activities throughout the engineering lifecycle focusing on engine testing, characterisation and development into programs of work and supply chain partners.

Responsibilities

  • Propulsion integration covering electric / ICE / small gas turbine
  • Fuel system design and integration
  • Running testing for the Electric / ICE / gas turbine
  • Development and maintenance of the test facility
  • Creation of test plans and procedures
  • Analysis of results from testing
  • Hands-on experience working within a manufacturing space
  • Creation of risk assessment
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, taking ownership for planning and delivering own tasks, identifying and resolving local issues
  • Analyse requirements, developing appropriate solutions that meet internal and external customer needs within required timescales
  • Support preparation for internal / customer facing design reviews
  • Maintain Configuration Management of own design data and written documentation to satisfy internal and external requirements
  • Support manufacturing and build teams with engineering queries through close liaison and provision of updates to design data
  • Contribute to item, sub‑system, and air vehicle‑level test activities, including flight test(s) and the production of formal test reports
  • Proactively support initiatives to improve company culture in areas such as Health and Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement
  • Perform other related duties as required

Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner. When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.

Skills and Experience

Qualifications

  • HNC, in an Engineering or Science subject, or equivalent years’ experience.

Essential

  • Excellent communicator who can collaborate effectively at own level
  • Self‑starting with demonstrable self‑organisational and planning skills
  • Self‑motivating and ability to work well in a team
  • Personal resilience with ability to adapt to different situations
  • Demonstrable problem‑solving ability, working to tight timescales
  • Proficient use of engine Dyno and thrust rig
  • Proficient use testing software and hardware
  • Demonstrable experience of performing first‑order calculations to support design decisions
  • Configuration Management experience in an engineering environment
  • Hands-on experience working within production environment to ensure designs are manufacturable within an effective manner

Desirable

  • Proficient in use of SolidWorks or a comparable CAD package, also able to produce technical drawings that comply with BS:8888 standards with a good understanding of GD&T.
  • Structural design, analysis and test, including composite materials
  • Design, integration and test of electro‑mechanical systems, including powerplants
  • Electrical and avionics systems integration experience
  • Experience of 3D printing, CNC milling and composite manufacture
  • Experience of tool / jig design for composite moulds (or similar)
  • Knowledge and application of civil / military aerospace standards
  • Systems Engineering experience, preferably within an aerospace context
  • Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW

Personal Attributes

  • Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK
  • Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel
  • A full valid UK driving license
  • Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK
