We are currently recruiting for an experienced and highly skilled Transport Planner to join a dynamic and forward-thinking local authority. The role will involve working strategically across the West Yorkshire and Leeds City Region, providing expert technical advice, guidance, and support to ensure the successful delivery of various transport planning functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading investigations and feasibility studies to assess and develop transport solutions.
- Coordinating the production of comprehensive Transport Studies, including transport assessments, modelling, and sustainable transport options.
- Planning and managing public and stakeholder consultations, and preparing detailed consultation reports.
- Managing procurement processes for transport-related studies and projects.
- Providing project management expertise across various highway and transportation schemes, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Preparing technical reports, feasibility designs, and project briefs, in line with the Council's standards and contractual agreements.
- Contributing to the development of key strategic transport plans and funding submissions to external bodies and government agencies.
- Overseeing and checking technical documentation, such as survey data, design briefs, and bid documents, ensuring compliance with established standards.
- Leading data acquisition, inspections, and assessments to inform transport planning decisions.
- Offering expert advice and guidance on complex transport planning and engineering problems.
- Supervising and mentoring junior staff, fostering their development and ensuring the team operates effectively.
- Representing the organisation at public meetings, committees, and external consultations.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 4 years' experience in a role within a transport planning or engineering environment.
- Proven experience in managing transport planning projects, including strategic planning, assessments, and procurement.
- Strong technical knowledge of transport planning principles, engineering solutions, and relevant policies and regulations.
- Proficiency in using a variety of ICT systems and transport modelling software.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders and present complex information clearly and persuasively.
- Experience in managing budgets and ensuring projects are delivered within financial constraints.
- A relevant professional qualification, such as Incorporated Engineer status or evidence of completing the Transport Planning Professional Training Review.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to develop multiple solutions to complex issues.
