Are you passionate about creating sustainable places and shaping the future of water management? This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancies, working on nationally significant projects where drainage design is about far more than simply moving water from A to B. You'll help deliver innovative Surface Water Management and Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) solutions that leave a lasting impact on communities, the environment and future developments.

Joining an established national team, you'll work alongside recognised technical specialists delivering drainage and SuDS solutions across a diverse portfolio including major residential and commercial developments, highways, rail infrastructure, local authorities and water company projects. You'll play a key role in integrating drainage into wider masterplanning, green and blue infrastructure and sustainable development strategies while embracing the latest digital engineering techniques.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys technical delivery but also wants to influence projects, mentor engineers and develop as a recognised specialist within the business. You'll have the opportunity to become a regional technical lead for Surface Water Management, helping shape best practice while working with experts across the UK.

What you'll be doing

  • Delivering drainage and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) designs from concept through to detailed design.
  • Producing high-quality drainage infrastructure design packages across a wide variety of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Managing projects to programme and budget while ensuring technical excellence throughout delivery.
  • Working closely with highways, environmental, planning, ecology, landscape architecture and infrastructure teams to create integrated design solutions.
  • Mentoring graduate and junior engineers, supporting their technical development and providing day-to-day guidance.
  • Preparing technical and financial proposals while supporting business development and client presentations.
  • Using and helping develop digital engineering tools and processes to improve project delivery and engineering efficiency.
  • Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations together with health, safety and environmental requirements.

What we're looking for

  • Chartered Engineer (ICE or CIWEM).
  • Strong UK experience delivering drainage and SuDS designs.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD together with MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage and/or Civil 3D.
  • Excellent understanding of hydraulic modelling and drainage design principles.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects and delivering work on time and within budget.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage directly with clients and stakeholders.
  • A genuine passion for sustainable engineering, innovation and creating better places through intelligent water management.

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience working within Design & Build environments.
  • Knowledge of BIM and digital design workflows.
  • Commercial awareness and experience developing client relationships.
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring engineers.

Why consider this opportunity?

This is far more than a traditional drainage design role. You'll join a business investing heavily in digital engineering, sustainability and innovation, working alongside some of the industry's leading specialists. You'll be involved in nationally important projects, collaborate across multiple disciplines and have genuine opportunities to progress into technical leadership while continuing to develop your expertise.

Hybrid working, flexible holiday allowance, tailored benefits and an outstanding commitment to professional development all combine to create an environment where you can continue building a long-term career without compromising on work-life balance.
