An independent MEP and sustainability consultancy with multiple offices is seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to strengthen its electrical team in London. The business has grown significantly over recent years and now operates with a combined team of around 40 engineers across both offices, working from a single shared project list and delegating across teams based on skillset. It specialises in education, science and research, and decarbonisation projects, with net zero at the core of its identity.

The Role

Based in the London office, the Principal Electrical Engineer will take ownership of design delivery across a varied project portfolio, working closely with Mechanical and Sustainability colleagues in a collaborative environment. The role reports directly to director‑level support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design from early concept through to completion for a range of building services projects.
  • Produce and review technical deliverables including drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams, clients, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers within the electrical team.
  • Contribute to the practice's low‑carbon and net‑zero design approach across all projects.

About You

  • Demonstrable experience at Principal or Senior Electrical Engineer level within a building services consultancy.
  • Strong technical grounding across LV power distribution, lighting design, fire alarms, and general building services electrical systems.
  • Experience within education, science and research, or similarly complex sectors is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in relevant design tools – Amtech, Dialux, and Revit/BIM experience beneficial.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership with IET or CIBSE.
  • A collaborative approach and genuine alignment with a sustainability‑led, people‑first culture.

The Business & Benefits

  • Independent MEP and sustainability consultancy operating across the South West.
  • Strong, selective project pipeline in education, science and research, and decarbonisation.
  • Single shared project list across both offices – genuine integration, not siloed teams.
  • Benefits including a 9‑day fortnight, 8% employer pension, EV salary sacrifice scheme, and share options currently being introduced.
  • Additional lifestyle benefits: GP appointments, cinema discounts, and more.
  • Monthly one‑to‑ones focused on development, wellbeing, and workload; flexible and hybrid working supported.
  • Open‑door culture with direct access to all three founding directors.
