Are you a Chartered (or on route to) Civil or Structural Engineer looking for a genuine leadership role within a growing maritime consultancy? We are recruiting a Senior Maritime Engineer to join a thriving practice based in London, working closely with the Director to help shape and grow the business at an exciting stage of expansion. This Senior Maritime Engineer role offers real influence over the direction of the company, not just delivery of projects.
You will lead complex maritime and infrastructure engineering projects from concept through to construction, act as Technical Lead across multiple schemes, and play a key part in growing the team and the business alongside senior leadership. While a background specifically in maritime engineering is beneficial, we are just as interested in speaking with engineers from a heavy civils, infrastructure or bridge engineering background who have a genuine passion for moving into maritime and can demonstrate strong, transferable technical experience. Direct maritime exposure is not essential if you can show the right technical foundation and appetite to learn.
The Role
- Lead the delivery of complex maritime and infrastructure engineering projects, develop and strengthen client relationships, mentor and support engineers working towards Chartership, and contribute directly to the strategic growth of the business.
- Work closely with clients, project managers, design engineers and group company partners, leading multidisciplinary teams and helping to expand the company's presence across the maritime and infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of complex maritime and infrastructure engineering projects from concept through construction.
- Act as Technical Lead, providing specialist engineering expertise across all project stages.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
- Prepare and review technical proposals, fee estimates and tender submissions.
- Lead multidisciplinary design teams and manage engineering interfaces across projects.
- Provide technical oversight, review and approval of designs, calculations and reports.
- Mentor and support engineers and graduates, including those working towards Chartership.
- Help shape technical standards, quality procedures and best practice.
- Work closely with Directors on business planning, resource management and strategic growth.
- Support recruitment and help grow the engineering team.
- Represent the business at client meetings, industry events and professional networks.
What We're Looking For
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with ICE or IStructE.
- Degree or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 8+ years' experience in civil or structural engineering consultancy.
- Background in heavy civils, infrastructure, bridge or maritime engineering design; we welcome applications from strong civil/structural generalists with a genuine interest in moving into maritime.
- Proven track record leading complex engineering projects and managing client relationships.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Strong commercial awareness, including fee proposals and project budget management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
What's On Offer
- A senior role with genuine responsibility and real influence over business growth and direction.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Performance related bonus.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Regular mentoring, training, leadership development and CPD opportunities.
- Company social events.
If you are a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer, whether from a maritime background or looking to bring your civils experience into the sector, and want to take the next step into a senior role with genuine scope to shape a growing consultancy, apply today or get in touch for a confidential conversation. We welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified candidates regardless of their sex, race, disability, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation or age.
