An established multi-disciplinary company, working on major projects across the UK & Ireland, is looking for a Senior Highway Engineer to join its Highways & Transportation team in North Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to play a key role in the delivery of major UK and Irish transport infrastructure projects while progressing their technical and leadership career within a growing team.

The role would suit a motivated professional with over 3 years' post-graduate experience, strong design capability, and a desire to work on complex, high-profile transportation schemes focusing on multi-million pound design and build schemes.

The Role

You will work on projects such as:

  • Highways and major roads
  • Bridges and structures
  • Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
  • Active travel (cycleways and pedestrian schemes)
  • Public transport infrastructure

Projects span the full asset lifecycle, from early feasibility and modelling through detailed design, construction support, and long-term asset management.

Senior Highway Engineer Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the design of highways and transportation schemes
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications and technical reports
  • Ensure compliance with UK and Irish design standards
  • Support project delivery to programme and budget
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence

Senior Highway Engineer Essential Requirements

  • Honours degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in transportation/highways design
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards chartership)
  • Strong knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, MCHW)
  • Experience preparing works contract documentation and specifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced consultancy environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and professional judgement
  • Fluent or highly proficient in written and spoken English

Senior Highway Engineer Desirable Experience

  • 3D road design software such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads or MX
  • Familiarity with TII and NTA project management guidelines
  • Experience on large-scale public infrastructure or transport programmes
