An award-winning, employee-owned Design Consultancy with a long-standing presence in the industry is seeking a Project Civil Engineer with a strong drainage bias to join its growing Leeds team. The practice has an excellent local reputation and is well regarded for its involvement in high-profile regeneration and mixed-use developments across the city. Its portfolio includes significant urban redevelopment schemes and complex city-centre projects, along with a broad range of other challenging and innovative work across the region.
The team also delivers projects for local educational institutions, including universities across the region, covering both new-build and refurbishment schemes of varying scale. In addition, they are trusted by local healthcare trusts and are actively involved in major programmes such as specialist care facilities and large hospital redevelopments. The Consultancy is engaged in stimulating and demanding work including offsite frameworks, modern methods of construction and the drive to meet emerging healthcare and education sustainability and zero-carbon standards.
This role will focus primarily on buildings drainage across a wide range of sectors, offering the successful Civil Engineer the opportunity to play a key part in shaping a growing civils offering in Leeds. The Project Civil Engineer will take responsibility for both concept and detailed design for sustainable drainage systems, applying a good working knowledge of Civil3D (and ideally Flow or similar software) to develop robust and buildable drainage networks. They will be comfortable liaising with approving authorities, clients and wider design teams, ensuring that technical solutions are well coordinated and clearly communicated from early stages through to construction. As the team expands, this person will be expected to work with a degree of independence, while also contributing to and benefiting from close collaboration with colleagues across the Consultancy's offices.
Ideal experience will include concept and detailed design for sustainable drainage systems, together with a solid working knowledge of Civil3D for drainage networks and confidence in liaising with authorities and multi-disciplinary design teams. It would be advantageous for the candidate to bring experience of flood risk assessments, coordination within multi-disciplinary teams, bulk earthworks and highways design, enabling them to contribute broadly to the civils workload. They will be actively working under a recognised professional Institution training pathway, such as ICE or CIWEM, with support provided locally through structured training, mentoring and development programmes. There will be regular opportunities to mentor more junior team members, sharing knowledge and helping to build capability within the civils group.
Above all, the right person will be guided by doing what is right when making decisions, recognising the contribution of others and sharing successes openly. They will be kind, conscientious and take pride in the quality of their work and the legacy that the profession leaves for clients, communities and the built environment. They will enjoy working in an employee-owned environment where people, integrity and long-term impact are central to the culture, and where their voice can help shape the future of the team as it grows.
