An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Handyman / Handyperson to join one of the country's leading Facilities Management companies, working with one of the UK's major supermarket clients across multiple commercial retail sites. This will be covering the Essex region including sites like Chelmsford, Maldon and Witham.

This is a permanent, multi-site role providing building maintenance services across a broad range of disciplines, helping to keep essential services and costs in-house. Experience with basic plumbing in a commercial environment will be highly beneficial, while previous experience working within commercial premises, particularly the retail sector, would be a distinct advantage.

The role involves carrying out non-technical repairs and minor PPMs, as well as assisting with planned and reactive maintenance across electrical and mechanical plant works at various sites within the designated region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist other technicians with major and minor maintenance works.
  • Complete all necessary PPM and reactive maintenance schedules within agreed timescales.
  • Respond promptly and positively to service call requests from the Helpdesk, assess job requirements and carry out repairs as necessary.
  • Prioritise and complete minor maintenance and repair works to agreed timescales.
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed accurately and in accordance with company requirements.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment required for minor maintenance and repairs are available, serviceable and maintained at all times.
  • Carry out planned and reactive building maintenance across multiple retail sites.
  • Provide support with electrical and mechanical plant maintenance where required.

Building Maintenance

The work consists of a combination of PPM and reactive building works, both internally and externally, including:

  • Repairing roof leaks
  • Quarterly gutter and gully clearance
  • Brickwork and wall repairs
  • Repairing vinyl and ceramic floor tiles
  • Car park and yard maintenance
  • Annual PPM and reactive repairs to roller shutters
  • General non-technical building repairs

Painting & Decorating

Carrying out minor painting and decorating repairs.

Plumbing & Drainage

Unblocking drains, urinals, toilets and sinks. Repairing leaking taps and replacing washers. Carrying out basic plumbing repairs within a commercial environment.

Qualifications & ExperienceEssential:

  • City & Guilds or NVQ trade qualification in Carpentry, Plumbing or Roofing.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance within a commercial or retail environment.
  • Experience carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance within a similar retail environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Ability to maintain and repair a range of equipment.
  • Experience using a PDA system.
  • Good quality and standard of repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to work efficiently and complete tasks within agreed timescales.

Package

£30,000 total salary
Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Overtime opportunities
Paid travel time after the first 30 minutes each way
