You will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team within an award-winning Consultancy that values innovation, sustainability and professional growth, working on projects that make a real difference to people and places. An opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineer to join a growing environmental and engineering Consultancy delivering projects that make a meaningful difference to communities and the environment.
The role offers the chance to contribute to a wide range of environmental improvement, river restoration, flood risk management, infrastructure and energy projects across the UK, while developing technical capability within a supportive, multidisciplinary team. Based in Edinburgh, you will work as part of an established engineering team alongside specialists including coastal modellers, reservoir engineers, geotechnical engineers, ecologists and geomorphologists.
The role will involve supporting the appraisal, design and delivery of projects from early concept through to construction, contributing practical and sustainable engineering solutions that respond to client needs and environmental challenges. The successful candidate will support technical design activities, including earthworks, drainage design, retaining walls and headwalls, and assist with the preparation of design calculations, drawings and technical reports.
They will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, helping to ensure designs are delivered efficiently, safely and in accordance with relevant standards, environmental legislation and CDM requirements. The role will also involve supporting site visits across the UK, including occasional overnight stays, to assist with project delivery and construction-stage activities.
The Civil Engineer will contribute to project delivery in a fast-paced Consultancy environment, working with a range of public, private and third-sector clients, including those within local government. An awareness of public-sector delivery processes, governance and funding mechanisms would be beneficial, particularly in supporting projects through design development and implementation.
Exposure to projects delivered under the NEC4 suite of contracts would be advantageous, with opportunities to develop commercial and contractual awareness as experience grows. Experience or interest in areas such as natural flood management, sustainable urban drainage systems, hydraulic modelling and Flood Risk Assessment would be beneficial. Familiarity with digital design tools, and an interest in developing skills in areas such as coding or parametric modelling, would also be welcomed. A full UK driving licence is required.
Candidates will hold a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Civil Engineering or a related discipline and will typically be working toward professional qualification, or preparing to enter Initial Professional Development, with a relevant professional body such as the Institution of Civil Engineers. The role would suit a motivated and well-organised engineer who enjoys collaborative working, problem-solving and developing their technical skills within a supportive team environment.
