If you are looking to take the next step in your career within an exciting, fast-growing, and forward-thinking Building Services & Sustainability Consultancy, this Senior Building Physics / Energy & Sustainability Engineer role will be of strong interest.
This opportunity is with a business that has experienced exceptional growth since its launch in 2022. Initially recognised for delivering innovative, high-value solutions within the Residential sector, the consultancy has rapidly expanded and now works across a broad mix of sectors, typically on projects ranging from £5M to £20M MEP value (£100M+ total build value). Projects are delivered across Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, London, and other major UK cities, with a strong emphasis on performance-led, low-carbon design.
The Role
As a Senior Building Physics / Energy & Sustainability Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of energy, sustainability, and building performance strategies across a varied portfolio of projects. This is a hands-on technical role, ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys detailed analysis, problem-solving, and client interaction.
You will work closely with MEP engineers, architects, and clients to ensure buildings are compliant, efficient, and future-ready, contributing heavily at RIBA Stages 4-5, with a strong focus on technical delivery through detailed design and into construction. The consultancy delivers projects fully digitally using Revit and BIM workflows, so experience working within coordinated digital environments is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver building physics, energy, and sustainability assessments across multiple projects
- Undertake and review thermal modelling, energy modelling, and Part L compliance (SBEM / SAP / dynamic simulation)
- Lead and contribute to overheating analysis (TM52 / TM59), daylighting, and thermal comfort studies
- Support the development of low-carbon and net zero strategies, including fabric-first and passive design approaches
- Work closely with MEP design teams to influence building performance outcomes
- Provide technical input across RIBA Stages 2-5, ensuring designs translate effectively into construction
- Liaise directly with clients, design teams, and external stakeholders to deliver the right solutions
- Support junior engineers through technical guidance and mentoring
- Contribute to sustainability assessments such as BREEAM, NABERS, or similar (where applicable)
- Assist with bid support, proposals, and early-stage energy strategy development
What We Offer
- Competitive salary (£45,000-£55,000) with performance-related bonus
- Annual fully funded wellness / team-building trip (e.g. sailing in the Greek Islands)
- Monthly team social events - previous activities include mountain walks, quad biking, and clay pigeon shooting
- Attendance at industry events, CIBSE seminars, and sustainability-focused CPD
- Clear progression pathway toward Principal and Associate-level roles
- Hybrid working - typically 3+ days in the office, 2 from home
- Structured professional development reviews using a clear competency framework
- Support toward Chartership (CIBSE / IES / Energy Institute or similar)
