I'm working with an independent MEP and sustainability consultancy looking for an Associate to lead its Mechanical team in Birmingham. They want someone who is strong on delivery, enjoys leading a team and takes pride in getting projects out of the door properly. Business development stays with the Director but you're welcome to get stuck in also. Your part is delivering well enough that clients come back.
They've been clear that they would rather wait for the right person than hire the available one. If you're not actively looking but are curious about a role built around delivery and team leadership, it's worth a conversation.
The Role
- Leading the Birmingham Mechanical team, currently a Senior Engineer, an Intermediate Engineer and an Apprentice, alongside a Senior Public Health Engineer
- Reporting to the Location Director and working closely with the Electrical lead
- Managing multiple projects, including workload, programme, fees and quality
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients and building strong working relationships
- Mentoring and developing the team, and helping them reach their potential
- Technically reviewing project documentation and maintaining high design standards
- Presenting to project teams and clients
- Working mainly on new build projects up to RIBA Stage 4, with residential, healthcare and higher education among the key sectors
About You
- Already working at Associate level, or a Principal doing the job in all but name
- A background in building services consultancy
- A degree-qualified Chartered Engineer is preferred, but equivalent industry experience will be considered
- Confident leading engineers and managing project delivery
- A strong communicator who is comfortable in front of clients
- Someone who takes real ownership of their work, their team and the outcome
The Business
- Independent UK consultancy with a national office network and a strong reputation for quality
- Established Birmingham team working on a good mix of local projects
- Real investment in training and development at every level
- Hybrid working, typically three days in the office and two at home
- 35-hour working week with flexible start and finish times
- 24 days' holiday, plus your birthday off and the option to exchange bank holidays
- A sociable culture, with networking events, charity work and the occasional drink after work
Salary is competitive and dependent on experience. If this sounds of interest, or you'd just like to know who the client is before deciding whether to reply, drop me a message for a confidential chat. Nothing goes anywhere without your say-so.
