An established and forward‑thinking multi‑disciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong regional presence across Yorkshire and the Humber is seeking to appoint an experienced Flood Risk & Drainage Engineer to join its growing infrastructure team in York.
With a long‑standing reputation for delivering practical, sustainable and commercially aware engineering solutions, the organisation provides a fully integrated service across Civil Engineering, Building Surveying and environmental disciplines, enabling it to support projects from initial feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
The Civil Engineering design teams possess broad expertise across the sector, complementing and strengthening the wider consultancy offering. In addition to traditional areas such as substructures, access roads and sewer design, the practice delivers Flood Risk Assessments, contaminated land surveys and feasibility studies for development sites.
Responsibilities
- Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy reports in support of planning applications.
- Design and model surface water and foul drainage systems for a diverse range of development schemes.
- Contribute to road and drainage layouts for new developments, integrating closely with architects’ housing layouts and adopting standards in accordance with local authority and statutory body requirements.
- Collaborate with building surveyors and fellow engineers to support planning and building regulation submissions.
- Deliver large‑scale flood alleviation design schemes and complex infrastructure projects including wharfs, jetties, marine structures and coastal erosion flood breach analysis.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of three years’ consultancy experience with a strong interest in flood risk assessment and surface water management.
Skills and Knowledge
- Confidence in the application of Sustainable Drainage Systems principles, attenuation and infiltration design, and hydraulic modelling.
- Proficiency in industry software such as Civil 3D and drainage modelling packages.
- Strong understanding of UK planning policy and approval processes.
- Clear and professional written communication skills.
