The UKI Senior Financial Controller is responsible for the financial activities of the UK and Ireland based business units. This role will build and lead the accounting team, managing working capital, monthly close and reporting, financial planning & analysis, internal controls, and overall process improvement, including potential systems upgrading. This role is the primary contact and reporting function into the corporate office located in San Diego, California, United States. The Senior Financial Controller – UKI leads a team of six direct reports (overall team of 23 people) supporting 15 business units across the region.
Hybrid Role: The role is Hybrid in Rotherham, South Yorkshire (Minimum of 3 days per week onsite).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing accounting and FP&A team while driving a culture of accountability, clarity, and continuous improvement.
- Bring UKI finance operations into world-class order by implementing global accounting policies, strengthening financial controls, and optimizing processes.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly cash flow forecasts working directly with the Global Treasury team, owning the management of working capital.
- Serve as the primary financial reporting partner for the U.S. corporate team, ensuring accurate, timely monthly reporting and seamless cross-border collaboration.
- Partner cross-functionally to diagnose operational and financial gaps, introduce scalable solutions, and drive stronger systems, insights, and controls.
- Communicate financial insights with clarity, influence, and trust—enabling leaders to understand, adopt, and act on critical information.
- Review monthly financial reporting packages and trial balance submissions for global consolidation team into group reporting.
- Directing critical input for the annual budget, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
- Developing and coaching accounting staff and direct influence across the organization.
- Overseeing annual audit of company financials at group level and statutory.
- Partnering with Operations on processes involving sales, procurement, inventory costing and inventory management.
- Maintaining relations with banks and other financial institutions.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting, leading a team and improving processes.
- Prior work experience as an auditor or advisory in a Big 4 accounting firm (or similar).
- Experience working for manufacturing or distribution companies.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP and Microsoft Dynamics a plus).
- Expert level or highly advanced Excel skills and attention to detail.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to investigate and resolve issues.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a multinational company environment.
