Salary: to £100,000 / €100,000 depending on location, plus potential equity
The Opportunity
Our client is one of the most exciting early-stage Insurtech businesses in the Specialty insurance market. Having already achieved significant commercial traction and backed by substantial financial investment, they are now entering the next phase of growth. This newly created Engineering Manager role offers the opportunity to become one of the key technical leaders within the business, taking ownership of the next evolution of their market-leading Policy Administration Platform.
The Role
This is a highly hands-on Engineering Manager position combining technical leadership with software engineering excellence. You will take ownership of designing and building the next generation of the company’s AI-enabled Policy Administration System for the Specialty Insurance market. Whilst you will have access to specialist engineers across front-end development, back-end engineering and data architecture, you will personally drive the technical direction, build key components yourself and ensure the platform evolves into a best-in-class AI-native solution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and development of the company’s next-generation Agentic AI platform.
- Remain highly hands-on across software design, architecture and development.
- Build new functionality whilst modernising the existing PAS platform.
- Take ownership of technical decisions, software quality and engineering best practice.
- Work across front-end, back-end and data architecture, collaborating with specialist engineers where appropriate.
- Use modern AI development tools to accelerate software engineering, including prompting, debugging, code generation and workflow optimisation.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to improve both the product and engineering processes.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Operations and the executive leadership team to deliver business objectives.
- Mentor and support engineers as the team expands.
- Help shape the long-term engineering strategy as the company continues to grow.
About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys building software as much as leading people. You’ll likely be working today as a Software Engineering Manager, Lead Engineer or Technical Lead within an Insurtech or insurance software business and will have retained a strong hands-on technical capability. You’ll be naturally curious about emerging AI technologies and already experimenting with modern AI coding tools in your own development work.
Essential Expertise:
- Recent experience developing software within an Insurance Policy Administration System (PAS) environment.
- Strong hands-on software engineering background across both front-end and back-end development.
- Experience designing scalable data architectures and cloud-based applications.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring software engineering teams.
- Comfortable remaining actively involved in coding and software design.
- Experience working with modern cloud technologies and distributed architectures.
- Excellent understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns and scalable system architecture.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working within a fast-moving startup environment.
AI Experience
We’re particularly interested in engineers who are already embracing AI as part of software development. This may include experience:
- Using AI coding assistants as part of daily development.
- Building software through effective prompt engineering.
- Debugging and refining AI-generated code.
- Experimenting with Agentic AI frameworks and autonomous workflows.
- Exploring Large Language Models and AI orchestration.
- Identifying opportunities for AI to improve engineering productivity and product capability.
You don’t need to be an AI Expert —but you should have genuine enthusiasm for where AI is taking software engineering and be excited about helping build one of the next generation of AI-native Insurtech platforms.
Why Join?
- Join a rapidly growing Insurtech with significant commercial momentum.
- Strong financial backing and ambitious international growth plans.
- Opportunity to own and build a next-generation AI-enabled insurance platform.
- Genuine influence over product and technology direction.
- Remote-first working with flexibility across the UK or Eastern Europe.
- Competitive salary up to £100,000 / €100,000 depending on location.
- Potential equity participation for the right individual.
- Outstanding long-term career progression as the business scales.
This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious engineering leader who wants to remain deeply technical while helping define how Agentic AI transforms Policy Administration Systems within the Specialty Insurance market. If you’re excited by the prospect of building rather than maintaining, innovating rather than iterating, and shaping the future of insurance technology, we’d love to hear from you.
