Finance Officer
Salary: Β£32,000-38,000
Location: Reading
We are seeking an experienced, dependable and detail-oriented Finance Officer to join our finance team in Reading. This is a hands-on role covering payroll support, accounts payable and management accounts, alongside wider finance duties as required. It would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of a defined workload, values stability and wants to become a long-term, trusted member of the finance team. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with established processes and recurring responsibilities, but who also has the experience, resourcefulness and practical know-how to adapt when priorities, systems or business requirements change.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Finance Inbox
- Manage the finance inbox and respond to supplier queries in a timely manner
- Process supplier invoices and ensure accurate coding and posting
- Reconcile supplier statements
- Prepare regular payment runs
Management Accounts & Month-End
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Prepare journals, accruals, and prepayments
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations
- Support month-end processes and reporting deadlines
Payroll
- Support the monthly payroll process, ensuring information is complete, accurate and submitted on time
- Process payroll changes including starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, commission and other adjustments
- Assist with payroll reconciliations and resolve payroll queries
- Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation
- Liaise with employees and relevant internal teams on payroll matters
- Support pension and other payroll-related administration as required
- Provide cover for payroll processing where required
- Maintain confidentiality when handling employee and payroll information
Wider Finance Support

Provide practical support across the finance team when priorities change, including reconciliations, reporting, payments and other ad hoc finance tasks
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous hands-on experience in a finance role, including accounts payable and exposure to management accounts
- Experience supporting or processing payroll, with a good understanding of payroll controls and confidentiality
- Strong reconciliation skills and high attention to detail
- Ability to manage a recurring workload reliably and meet monthly deadlines
- Good Excel skills and confidence using financial systems
- Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt when processes or priorities change
Desirable:
- Experience using Sage or similar accounting software and payroll systems
- Experience in a multi-entity finance environment
