Position Overview
Calian is currently hiring casual Crisis Support Workers to support a 911 call centre for a public safety organization.
Responsibilities
- Offer immediate de-escalation and support to those experiencing a mental health crisis
- Divert non-emergent mental health-related calls for service, to more appropriate services including regional mental health and addiction support services
- Decrease the volume of non-emergent mental health-related calls
- Reduce the use of public safety personnel for non-emergent responses when appropriate
- Help individuals experiencing mental health crises by offering better pathways to meet their needs and supporting the de-stigmatization of mental health issues.
Qualifications
- Telephone crisis service delivery, preferably more than 2 yearsβ experience
- Data entry and excel reporting experience
- Experience providing intensive brief intervention, crisis intervention and system navigation to clients over the phone
- Delivery of over the phone assessments and safety planning
- Demonstrated ability to effectively provide over the phone crisis intervention to individuals experiencing crisis
- Ability to effectively identify problems and offer appropriate resources, referrals, and information to assist the individual in resolving the crisis
- Strong knowledge of appropriate mental health, addiction, problem gaming/gambling and other community resources for system navigation and referral
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively and efficiently navigate multiple computer systems
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
