We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Officer to join our growing development team. The successful incumbent will be responsible for verifying that all Contractors comply with and adhere to the contractor's HSE Project documentation and Company requirements. Ensures compliance with HSE rules and regulations specific to construction practices and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and experience of the international and national practices, regulations and standards for health, safety and environmental.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducting and coordinating internal and external HSE Audits
- Liaising with internal and external customers as well as relevant statutory bodies
- Contributing to and executing tasks within agreed timelines related to the company’s site HSE management program
- Maintaining set objectives and targets related to site (LTIFR, MTC’s and Near Misses)
- Inspecting the workplace and workplace equipment to ensure they conform to health and safety regulations and legislation
- Advising project managers and site managers on safety, health and environmental matters
- Planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing the health and safety strategies, policies, plans and procedures of the organisation
- Assisting with investigating accidents and unsafe working conditions as well as studying possible causes and recommending remedial actions
- Participating in external audits as well as conducting occupational health, safety and environmental related surveys and providing recommendations
- Developing, implementing, reviewing and training staff on emergency plans
- Ensuring implementation of Calgro HSE Management System and strategy within the area of responsibility in order to attain the objectives and targets set
- Ensuring implementation of HSE standards and procedures, policies on a project
- Developing and monitoring HSE risks, risk/impact management process in accordance with Calgro and client requirements
- Ensuring monitoring and analysing of HSE performance on site and identifying and communicating lagging and leading indicators
- Enforcing safe behaviour and continuously addressing at-risk behaviour
- Ensuring compliance with legal requirements
- Initiating specific HSE awareness campaigns
- Maintaining an efficient recording system to ensure that all training and licensing of operators and any other HSE incidents records are kept safely
Desired Experience & Qualification
- ND Safety Management/ND Environmental Management – compulsory
- SHEQ Management Course
- SAMTRAC or NEBOSH certificates
- ISO 45001 and 14001 Awareness and implementation
- RCAT/Incident investigation
- Registration with SACPCMP as a CHSO
- Hazard Identification and Risk assessment
- Environmental Management Training/certificate
- Report writing skills
- Driver's Licence
Work Experience
- Minimum 2-3 Years’ Experience working in a Construction Industry HSE Experience
Knowledge
- Ability to co-ordinate, monitor and assess
- Attention to detail
- Familiar with the OHS Act, Construction Regulations, Environmental Laws and Bi-Laws
- Be able to interpret ROD’s
- Computer Literacy
- Strong Customer Skills
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
