Location: Orpington or London (3 days per week)
As a Graduate Structural Engineer, you’ll work in a small team of experienced engineers, gaining hands‑on exposure to the design and delivery of buildings and infrastructure across the UK. In this role you'll be developing your skills, confidence and professional judgement from day one but will need to be able to work using your own initiative. This is a great opportunity for a Graduate with a couple of years' work experience to build on strong foundations for your career in a supportive team that values curiosity, integrity and continuous learning, while supporting your progression towards chartership.
The role:
- To provide support to the group in day-to-day activities and client services through structural engineering design and draughting activities.
- To learn ‘on the job’ by shadowing more senior members of the group and taking responsibility for day-to-day tasks depending on experience and confidence (with suitable support/training from the wider group).
- You'll also have the opportunity to enhance your understanding of structural/civil engineering and the role played in construction.
What you’ll be doing:
- Assist in the preparation of technical calculations and modelling.
- Assist in the preparation and issue of technical design drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Assist in the preparation of Risk Assessments.
- Liaise with the Design Team to obtain information to allow task completion.
- Assist in the preparation of RIBA design stage reports.
- Shadow more senior team members at project team meetings.
- Assist in the technical review of third‑party design information.
- Attend in‑house project reviews and provide input as necessary.
- Shadow senior team members on site surveys and assist with preparation of resultant report.
- Undertake various admin/clerical tasks with regards to day‑to‑day project admin and under the direction of senior team member(s).
- Assist with project filing to ensure aligned with company processes.
- Make Line Manager aware of any role relevant training requirements.
- Maintain a high quality in all information output.
What you’ll need:
Qualifications:
- Degree in structural / civil engineering (BEng, BEng(hons), BSc, etc.)
- Current UK driving licence and access to transport would be advantageous.
Knowledge:
- 2 years' design office experience.
- Understanding of building construction.
- Awareness of the role and duties of a Structural / Civil Engineer.
- Awareness of the members of a Design Team and their roles / duties.
Skills:
- Strong problem solving abilities.
- Familiar and empathetic with basic forms of building construction.
- Curious and able to demonstrate ongoing CPD.
- Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Strong written communication skills and experience of writing reports.
- Basic use of Microsoft software (word, excel, outlook, etc.).
- Awareness of industry modelling software (TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer, Revit, etc.).
