We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our London team.
Location: London/Hybrid
Hours: 35 Hours
The role:
- You will be the primary lead on both cost consultancy (pre and post-contract) and employer's agents roles.
- You will provide a diligent service to clients, including liaising, where necessary, with external consultants whilst managing and working alongside other colleagues.
- You will support senior peers and at the same time support and train junior colleagues.
What you’ll be doing:
- Keep the Group Leader / Line Managers appraised of important issues on projects.
- Prepare and manage cost estimates (at various RIBA stages) and budgets through the project life cycle, ensuring financial efficiency and project success.
- Each month ensure that progress reports and fee plans are fully updated and completed.
- Understand and manage risk; both project and consultancy related.
- Ensure our work complies with our appointment, that any changes to our scope are recorded and that client decisions are recorded and auditable.
- Tender preparation, tender reviews/comparisons and Tender Report production, or Value for Money Statements.
- Carry out post-contract QS role i.e. undertake valuations, produce Cost Reports, change control and negotiate Final Accounts etc.
- Carry out Contract Administration and Employer's Agent duties.
- Chair meetings (where required) and produce diligent Meeting Minutes.
- Operate CostX (Measurement Software) or be able to direct junior colleagues in measurement requirements.
- Manage handovers, snagging and validate paperwork. Supervise junior colleagues.
- Assist in development and maintenance of in-house cost database.
- Train others and knowledge share with junior team members.
Qualifications:
- Degree in relevant field of specialism (i.e. Quantity Surveying or Construction Management).
- MRICS or similar qualification or significant progress towards the qualification.
Knowledge:
- To have a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
- Basic construction and property law.
- Construction costs/economics.
- Pre-contract matters and how to take a project through its lifecycle.
- Familiarity with standard forms of contract including the JCT suite.
Skills:
- A full and detailed working knowledge of the most widely used forms of building contract.
- Produce reports in good English.
- Proficient in the use of office software and internal systems (MS Excel, internal IMS etc).
- Able to work without supervision and to supervise others.
- Good communication and people skills.
- Personable and confident.
- Team Worker, able to work on own initiative and accept guidance/constructive criticism.
- Able and open to assisting, supporting and mentoring more junior staff members.
