We have a brilliant opportunity to join a leading contractor as Design Manager. You will take responsibility for the management of the design co-ordination on a number of live projects, from inception to completion. The key role being to ensure design information is received in line with design release schedules to enable the project to be constructed on or ahead of programme.
The role is the main point of contact for the Clients design team and the key link with the Subcontract design packages. Our clients' projects are heavily within Industrial Builds, so if you have experience within logistics, warehouse builds or steel frame construction then this could suit you.
Key Responsibilities- Pre-Construction
- Attend pre-tender and tender meetings when required
- Review designs at tender stage and suggest value-engineering options
- Set up new projects using company systems and procedures
- Prepare and manage the Design Information Release Schedule in line with the construction programme
- Identify design risks and opportunities and work closely with Commercial and Contracts teams
- Maintain an RFI register and follow up outstanding design queries
- Arrange and chair design team meetings to agree design details, coordination, and timescales
- On Site
- Monitor design progress to ensure it meets the agreed programme, specifications, and drawings
- Update design programmes, RFI schedules, and information release schedules as needed
- Prepare design updates for monthly contractor and project team meetings
- Chair design team meetings and attend internal and client meetings as required
- Ensure site works comply with approved drawings and specifications
- Work with the Commercial Manager to resolve design, procurement, and site issues efficiently
- Manage and communicate design issues with internal teams and the client
- Ensure designs comply with statutory requirements (Building Regulations, Planning, BREEAM, etc.)
- Maintain strong working relationships with consultants and subcontractors
- Project Completion
- Support the project through completion in line with the programme
- Help ensure all handover and completion documentation is produced on time
- Oversee O&M manuals, Health & Safety files, and Practical Completion requirements
- Ensure accurate as-built drawings are completed and included in final documentation
